When I first had the idea of starting my own business, I didn't know how I was going to find the time for it. I barely had time to sit down for 5 minutes with a newborn and a degree to finish, let alone run a business!

There's so much to do around the house, food needs to be cooked (and bought), the kids need to be looked after, you've got Game of Thrones to watch on the TV... (2 weeks to go!)

If you want it badly enough then you'll make time for it. So how do you get more time?

Well, you don't, there is no more time so it's all about how you use what you have. Being smart about how you use your time is pretty much like getting more of it, so here's 5 ways to 'get more time':

1 - Create a schedule for your family so everyone is doing the chores and not just you. After all, you're not the only one who makes the mess so you don’t have to be the only one responsible for cleaning it up.

2 - Send your children to some kind of childcare if they're not in school or ask grandparents to have them one day a week. They'll get more time with their family and you'll get more time to work. We have a daddy daughter day every Saturday where my husband spends some quality time with our daughter. He works 9-5 Monday to Friday at his business so they both love having that one to one time on the weekend to do something fun together.

3 - Hire help. Whether that's a virtual assistant, a cleaner, a gardener, whatever you need. Spending the money on having someone else do it will give you the time you need to get other money making tasks done. If you charge $97 for a one hour call with you and a cleaner is $10 an hour, that’s 9 hours of cleaning you could get back.

4 - Say no to things you don't want to go to. If you've been asked to organise a bake sale, a charity car wash, a social event for work or some other soul destroying waste of your time, say no. There are plenty of other people who will do it. If you say no they're just going to move down the list to the next person.

5 - Stop watching so much TV! You don't have to watch everything that Shonda Rhymes ever wrote, no matter how awesome it is. Save them all up to binge watch in one day if you must or ask for them on boxset for Christmas. Just don't spend every evening in front of the TV and wonder why you're not getting anything done.

What can you do today to be smarter with your time?

One thing you definitely can do is make sure you're attracting the right audience to you and that you have a way to communicate with them. One of the best ways I've found to do this is via a Facebook group.

My top 2 favourite ways to grow your Facebook group without paid advertising are:

1 – Host a mini masterclass on a topic you know very well via livestream and promote the event all over social media. If people want to learn about the topic, all they need to do is join your group for free access.

2 – Create a resource that’s only for the group (like a value packed PDF) and put it in the files section of the group. You have to be a member of the group to access it, so let people know what it is and why they need it, then direct them to join your group to get a copy.
