The thing I love the most about my business is that I get to be at home with my daughter. Hands down that is THE number one reason why I haven’t given up and started looking for a job.
I did consider it once and even found a great job I was interested in, but then I had a thought:
What would I do during school holidays?
And then I thought about all the other downsides to getting a job over running my own business and I quickly dismissed the idea!
But I also know that there have been a lot of times where I didn’t know if I could keep going in my business. I spent so long not making any sales that I felt like I was doing this business thing all wrong.
There were so many other people out there who were offering similar things and making sales all the time, but I just couldn’t get it to work. It was so disheartening when I’d get off a free call and the other person would tell me how awesome it had been and how much I’d helped them, to think that I could be helping so many more people - if I only knew how.
Thankfully I’m not the kind of person to easily give up when I really want something! So I invested in courses and coaches and spent every spare hour I had (which was a fair few with no clients) working out what it was that I could do differently.
One thing stood out more than anything else – I’d never taken the time to grow my audience.
I’d been sucked into the trap of build it and they will come, but no-one even knew who I was, so why would they buy from me?
At first I started to build relationships in Facebook groups and while I did have some success at turning these relationships into clients, I was just another voice in a sea of people. It wasn’t until I started my own group that I saw some real results. People started reaching out to me instead of me reaching out to them, people started recommending me and tagging me all over social media. Sales became so much easier – because now I had an audience to ask what they wanted help with. Once I knew what my audience wanted, I could offer it. When you’re offering what people have told you they want, it’s easy for them to say yes.
And all this is thanks to my Facebook group. My Facebook group has helped me to grow my email list, create paid courses and trainings that have easily sold, position myself as an authority in my niche and more.
