This weekend I sat in my house with my parents and my little girl thinking about how far my business and I have come since this time last year.

At the start of July 2016 I'd been in business 7 months and I'd just finished working with a coach 1:1 for all of June. I'd made $1,500 and I was ecstatic. My husband and I went to Costco and bought over $500 worth of meat, freezer foods and a bouncy castle for the garden for our daughter. I couldn't wait to see how much money I made by the end of the month!

I felt like I'd finally cracked the secret code to running a successful online business!

And then in July 2016 I made a grand total of: $200.

I felt so confused. I'd repeated all of the things my coach had told me how to do, but I didn't get anywhere near the same kind of results.

It took me a long time to realise that while the strategies my coach had shown me were great for making money quickly, they were as useful as a chocolate teapot when it came to making long-term advances in my business.

I'd learnt nothing about building lasting relationships and nothing about collecting leads - let alone nurturing them - and that is the key to creating a successful business. It comes down to having an audience who need what you have to offer and being able to deliver the solution in a way they can actually use.

One thing that's made the biggest difference to my business between then and now is without a doubt my Facebook group, this Facebook group!
